1. What was the background to the establishment of Tomen Devices?

Our affiliate, Tomen Electronics Corporation (now NEXTY Electronics) signed a specialized agency agreement for semiconductors with Samsung Japan Corporation in 1987. At that time, however, the semiconductor market was dominated by Japanese manufacturers, and latecomer Samsung struggled to increase the market share for its DRAM.
It was an era when Japanese semiconductor manufacturers had semiconductor trading subsidiaries whereby they expanded their market share. Samsung also sought to establish a specialized trading company that would only handle Samsung semiconductors. Thus, in 1992, Tomen Devices was established by splitting off Tomen Electronics’ Samsung trading division to form an independent, with joint investment from Tomen (now Toyota Tsusho), Tomen Electronics and Samsung Japan.

2. What are the strengths and features of Samsung semiconductors?

Samsung is the world's second largest semiconductor manufacturer after Intel. It boasts the world's top share in memory semiconductors, particularly DRAM and NAND FLASH. It is one of the world leaders in LCD panels and dominates in terms of quality and technology.
In addition, it has secured a leading share in finished products field, such as in the mobile phone market, through continuous and powerful investment and prominent marketing capabilities.

3. What are the features of Tomen Devices?

The Group focuses its efforts acting as a bridge between Samsung and set makers, which are the customer, and also upon marketing. In particular, as a sales force for Samsung, we make proposals for advanced semiconductors from the development stage, cooperating with set makers and Samsung, producing the results whereby we have gained their trust.
For set makers, our role of engagement from the development stage has great significance because, while semiconductors that are used in products are considered generic, those which we handle are generally certified.
Also, we have established a network of bases in the Asian region whereby we can provide a seamless response when customers transfer production overseas.
In addition, we leverage the advantages of our “elite team,” achieving the highest level of sales per person and ordinary profit among semiconductor trading companies.

4. What is Tomen Devices’ management strategy?

The company will continue to develop its business specializing in Samsung’s highly competitive semiconductors and electronic components. In addition, we will concentrate our management resources and implement more efficient operations. We consider it the basis of our management strategy to be a total solution trading company in the electronics field, in alignment with the Samsung Group's market strategy.

5. What business is the company engaged in and what products does it handle?

The business of the Group is that of a technical sales trading company that sells Samsung semiconductors and electronic components to manufacturers of personal computers, digital consumer electronics, mobile phones, information and communications devices.Specific products handled by the company include memory semiconductors such as DRAM, FLASH and MCP. In addition, we sell system LSI semiconductors, particularly ASIC, DDI (driver IC, etc.) and CMOS image sensors, as well as LCD panels, organic EL, and LEDs.

6. What is the business strategy of Group companies?

Our parent company is Toyota Tsusho (merged with the former Tomen in April 2006), a general trading company of the Toyota Group. It owns 50.1% of the company on a voting right basis.
NEXTY Electronics, also a semiconductor trading company, is an affiliated company.The company has four subsidiaries: ATMD (Hong Kong) Ltd., ATMD ELECTRONICS (Shanghai) Ltd. ,ATMD ELECTRONICS (Shenzhen) Ltd. and ATMD Electronics(Singapore)Pte. Ltd.,through which we strive to expand sales in China and Hong Kong for Samsung semiconductors and electronic components.

7. When was the company’s stock listed on JASDAQ and the Tokyo Stock Exchange?

Tomen Devices was listed on JASDAQ on June 26, 2002 and it was listed on the second section of the Tokyo Stock on March 25, 2004.On March 1, 2005, it was fortunate to be listed on the first part of the Tokyo Stock Exchange market wishfully, where it has remained to the present.

8. What is the company's shareholder benefit system?

The company implemented a system from fiscal 2004 in an effort to enhance its prominence. Benefits offered are described under Shareholder Notes.
We believe that the shareholder benefit system is a means to gain greater support for the company.

9. What initiatives exist to address environmental problems?

Tomen Devices Group believes its corporate duty is to comply with the rules of the international community, observing environmental conventions, laws and practices, and striving to preserve and protect the global environment.
In our business activities, we also provide energy- and resource-efficient products and services aiming for conservation of and harmony with the environment.

We have established an environmental management system based on that of ISO 14001 and are striving to carefully address and prevent environmental problems.
